The Kentucky Derby

Everyone in the state of Kentucky, knows that the first Saturday in May is the big day; that’s the official running of the most famous horse race in the world, the Kentucky Derby.

If you have never been there, Churchill Downs is a beautiful place to visit not to mention it is a whole lot of fun.

There are the expensive tickets and “Millionaire’s Row” that you have heard so much about. There are also some very affordable tickets if you want to attend without quite so much fuss.

The Kentucky Oaks

Today is the “Oaks Day” AKA the Friday before the Kentucky Derby which for a long time was the official day the “locals” went to the track.  But as time has gone by, that day has become another day that guests from out of town like to come to Louisville for horse racing.  I saw several articles this year that referred to the Thursday before the Kentucky Derby as being “Thurby”.  I’m not quite sure how I feel about that term, but it would appear that this is the new day the locals have their outing during Derby Week.

If you still want to see if there might be a general admission ticket available, you can do that here.

Remember …. It’s the most famous two minutes in sports.   If you want to check out the post positions you can take a look here.

Who’s My Favorite?

Wicked Strong who is being ridden by Rajiv Maragh.  And the odds?  8-1.  That’s not too shabby but the post position is 20.

Now that’s terrible. Just in case you are wondering how I picked this horse? I picked it using my tried and true method;  I love the name.  I know, it’s not very scientific which probably explains why I don’t usually win.

Whatever my outcome, it will be a great race and a great day.
